HOW DOES IT WORK?
BOTOX® Cosmetic blocks the release of a substance called acetylcholine in “dynamic” facial muscles. This reduces the activity that causes the formation of moderate to severe wrinkles or creases.
HOW SOON WILL I SEE RESULTS, AND HOW LONG WILL THEY LAST?
BOTOX® takes effect within 2 to 4 days following treatment as it gradually weakens the contractions in targeted muscles. Full results are visible within 2 weeks and last up to 4 months.
IF I WANT TO HAVE BOTOX® BEFORE AN IMPORTANT EVENT, HOW FAR OUT SHOULD I SCHEDULE MY TREATMENT?
To ensure that any bruising or swelling has time to resolve, you should schedule your appointment approximately 2 weeks before your event.
CAN BOTOX® PREVENT WRINKLES?
BOTOX® prevents the use of specific “dynamic” muscles that eventually lead to lines, creases, and wrinkles. If treatment is started early enough, it can prevent those lines from developing in the first place. Although this treatment cannot correct wrinkles that have already formed, it can prevent them from worsening.
CAN I HAVE MORE THAN ONE AREA TREATED AT A TIME?
Yes, it is frequently administered in one or more of these 5 common treatment areas at the same time.
DO INJECTIONS HURT?
The only pain associated with injections comes from the needle, so the smaller it is, the better the treatment is tolerated. Whenever fluid is injected under the skin, nerves can react, and that response varies from person to person. Sensitive patients can receive a topical anesthetic cream prior to treatment to increase their comfort, but this is usually not needed.
HOW CAN I AVOID THE FROZEN LOOK?
The key to satisfying results is good communication. Remember to discuss your desired effects with your clinician prior to the injections. DOES BOTOX® HAVE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Occasionally, some of our patients may experience localized pain, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, or bruising at or near the injection site.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS? IS IT SAFE?
BOTOX® is very safe when injected by an experienced clinician. The main complication usually involves the unintentional weakening of a muscle that was not a target, often because the medication has migrated. If this does occur, patients can be prescribed medications that may help. If you are not happy with your results, remember that the treatment effects are reversible.
ARE INJECTIONS REVERSIBLE IF I DON’T LIKE MY RESULTS?
No. However, the undesirable effects will wear off within 3 to 4 months.
AT WHAT AGE CAN SOMEONE BEGIN USING BOTOX?
Adults of any age who are concerned with wrinkles, creases, or deep lines can use BOTOX® Cosmetic. The FDA has approved it for use in people ages 18 to 65.
CAN BOTOX® HELP TREAT EXCESSIVE SWEATING?
In 2004, the FDA approved BOTOX® as a safe and effective treatment for excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) of the armpits, hands, or feet, helping millions of people regain control of their lives.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOTOX AND DERMAL FILLERS?
BOTOX® relaxes your facial muscles to keep them from contracting and creating wrinkles. On the other hand, dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM® fill in existing wrinkles, restoring volume and leading to a smoother surface appearance. Both treatments complement each other nicely, creating a “liquid facelift”.
